Mother Knows Best Jan 30

Day 17

Hello and welcome to the Skinny Bitch Lifestyle.

Correction: After speaking to my mom yesterday she noticed I had been indicating I have had 8 oz. of veggie booty and veggie sticks for a snack in some cases. My mom was concerned I was consuming a ½ pound of veggie booty/sticks, and that would be far too many calories. My mom was right, moms are always right, and that was a misprint. The correct calculation is approximately 2 cups, not 8 oz, as previously noted on certain days…Thanks mom!!! Then my mom continued to remind me that, my son, also her unique eight year old grandson, Hayden, is a lot like how I was at that age…Thanks again mom!!!

Tonight was family dinner night, and we went to Islands Restaurant…a favorite, because television viewing can continue uninterrupted from the house to the car to the restaurant. I’m happy to report that Islands turned out to be a good restaurant experience for this newbie-vegan. There were a few choices, but I narrowed it down to the grilled veggie tacos; with corn tortillas, grilled zucchini, red peppers, mushrooms, corn, black beans and avocado. This dish was only 477 calories (yes, the calories were printed on the menu). However, there’s still that gnawing habit of trying to take french fries off my kids plates. Hopefully, that urge will stop someday soon. It’s funny because my own meal filled me up, and I wasn’t even hungry for french fries, it just feels so natural to clean my kids plates. Usually, at the end of a meal my husband and I enjoy a cappuccino…not tonight. Next, my boys ordered ice cream sundaes, and I ordered an exciting cup of hot water for my tea. Then I conveniently yanked a tea bag from my Mary Poppins hand bag. This is no joke. I have water and back up vegan food weighing down my purse just incase of an emergency, and I am stuck in an elevator or broken down on the side of the road in my mini van.

Fact: I received the movie, “Food, Inc.” via Netflix, which was featured on Oprah and watched it last night. It was very eye opening and scary at the same time. Basically, I didn’t sleep well last night because it freaked me out!!! At 7:30 this morning I woke up and drove directly to the donut shop and selected a dozen donuts for my boys to eat for breakfast and lunch. Figuring donuts would fill up their tummies cheaper and safer. The consumption of a sugar, sugar and more sugar breakfast seemed to comfort me more than ever before. The documentary “Food, Inc.” was very good and I am glad I watched it, but I will not go into details about it on my blog. What we eat is controlled by a much bigger entity than I had ever expected. I actually had to remind myself that what I was watching was taking place in America every day.

Another day towards a fit and fab life!!!
