Repercussions Dec 26

Day 347

Hello and welcome to the Skinny Bitch Vegan Lifestyle.

Well, I survived Christmas and all major holidays this year are a thing of the past, except for New Years which is just a few days away. One of the primary roles I have partaken in as a vegan, since I do not drink much (only a red organic wine occasionally) is the “designated driver.”

Christmas day my husband had too much food, desserts, wine, and more wine so I was the taxi driver last night when we left my sister’s house. As we made our way home in the pouring rain my husband Greg laid in a helpless  vegetative-coma state in the passenger seat. And our two sons and my mother-in-law, Pam, were seated in the backseat. Hayden my youngest son thought his dad had too much non-vegan food causing his stomach ache and said, “dad…you should be a vegan like mom.” However Pam, who is British, was explaining to Greg, “darling you really mustn’t drink so much it’s not good for you.”

Just before we pulled into our driveway I heard Greg mumble, “I think I will be a vegan all day tomorrow.”

Nobody Will Ever Know Dec 24

Day 345

Hello and welcome to the Skinny Bitch Vegan Lifestyle.

One of the comments I tend to hear a lot since becoming a vegan is, “come on…nobody will ever know if you eat something non-vegan.” As if I am being monitored by the vegan police. Shortly after my teenage years I realized the good times were over. And managing my weight more closely would be a necessity my entire life. Through the years people (I won’t name names) have frequently tried to sabotage my dieting plans, and why is that? Could it be that choosing healthier eating choices for oneself causes others to feel uncomfortable and self conscience about their own  personal eating lifestyle? Or maybe it reminds others of all the failed diets they have experienced in their own lifetime. And all they are attempting to do is save me from potential disappointment?

It’s That Time of Year Dec 23

Day 344

Hello and welcome to the Skinny Bitch Vegan Lifestyle.

It’s that time of year when friends, neighbors, and my husband’s work associates are bestowing us with treats galore. My vegan cocoon I have managed to live in for the past eleven months is being invaded with non-vegan sugary snacks and sweets, when a simple card would suffice. Connor and Hayden are loving the fact there are more goodies for them to indulge in. It dawned on me the other day that the boys seem to enjoy me being a vegan only when it suits them…a vegan of convenience…how rude!

Go Green! Dec 22

Day 343

Hello and welcome to the Skinny Bitch Vegan Lifestyle.

Yesterday I ventured out to the grocery store, and since I am a vegan I did what any good vegan would do and used my green reusable shopping bags. When I eventually made it to the check-out line I was very pleased with myself when I handed the bagger my own personal reusable shopping bags, instead of using paper or plastic.

As I struggled to get to my car in the pouring rain one of the bags fell from my hand and crashed onto the ground. Unfortunately, a jar of salsa broke inside one of the bags. Once I returned home and cleaned the broken glass debris and chunky salsa mess from my reusable bag, I then had to throw the bag into the washing machine…Go green!!!

Ho Ho Ho…the grumpy vegan.
